Pickin’s Picks

National and regional indie folk, newgrass, Latin influences, and more from curator Rob Miller of Pickin’ Productions.

  • Eilen Jewell meshes the vibe of greats such as Loretta Lynn with classic blues, gospel, and contemporary folk music—and rolls it all up into her own sound. (Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 8 p.m.)

  • Chatham County Line, a North Carolina bluegrass band with stunning songwriters, in a double header with folk singer John Craigie, called a Bob Dylan of this generation. (Friday, June 14, 8 p.m.).

  • Aaron Lee Tasjan and his band, who prove that rock and roll is alive and well, with music that is original, funny, powerful, approachable, and familiar. (Saturday, July 6, 8 p.m.)

  • Dos Santos, which hails from Chicago and blends traditional Mexican folk, salsa, and cambia with jazz, soul, and R&B, bringing it into the modern world with themes of arts education and social justice. (Saturday, July 27, 8 p.m.)

High Notes: Music and Theatre in the Mountains

 Opera, musicals, and national and community talent curated by Leadville’s own Scott Carroll, the Tabor’s 2017 artistic director and Lake County High School choral and theatre director.

  •  An Evening with Opera Stars Jill and Jake Gardner, with Andrew Bisantz, nationally recognized opera performers and conductor bring their impressive talent to Leadville. (Friday, July 5, 7:30 p.m.)

  • “En Mis Palabras/In My Own Words,” a bilingual family-friendly matinee by the Central City Opera with a theme of finding your own voice. (Saturday, June 15, 2 p.m.)

  • “THE FANTASTICKS,” an exciting collaboration with the Lake County Civic Center Association, led by Carl Schaefer and directed by Scott Carroll. (Fridays and Saturdays, July 12 & 13 and July 19 & 20, 7:30 p.m. - choose ONE show).

  • The Leadville Community Talent Show, back by popular demand, featuring the best local talent in the Cloud City. (Saturday, Aug. 3, 2 p.m.)
